About Mickey Urdea

Dr. Urdea is Founder and Partner for Halteres Associates. He also founded and served as Chief Executive Officer of Tethys Bioscience, a proteomics-based diagnostics company that has been involved in the prevention of type-2 diabetes (assets acquired by HDL), and was CEO of Quantum Dots Corporation (assets acquired by Life Technologies). Additionally, Dr. Urdea is a founder and the Chairman of Catalysis Foundation for Health (CFH), a non-profit organization addressing gaps in global healthcare caused by inefficiencies in disease diagnosis and monitoring; CFH is developing potential biomarkers for tuberculosis bacterial load with a grant for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Dr. Urdea is a member of the University of California at San Francisco Leadership Council for Global Health. He serves as a consultant to the life sciences industry and is on the scientific advisory boards and boards of directors of a number of biotechnology and diagnostics companies. As a partner at both Kilpatrick Townsend and Morgan Lewis, Dr. Parent’s practice focused on domestic and international patent prosecution and strategy. In addition, she prepared opinions (patentability, non-infringement and invalidity), landscape and freedom to operate analyses, as well as IP due diligence for acquisitions, mergers, financing, collaborations, partnerships, and licensing. Dr. Parent also developed a thriving practice assisting European patent counsel in opposition proceedings, representing both patentees and opponents.

Scientific Background

Her life sciences expertise includes nucleic acid technologies, such as molecular diagnostics and therapeutics; protein technologies, such as first and second-generation therapeutic biologics, diagnostics, and vaccines; drug discovery platforms; recombinant protein manufacture and purification systems; cellular technologies; targeted drug delivery systems, microbial growth and production systems, polymers, and small chemical molecules.

Dr. Parent conducted extensive research on RNA splicing and processing while earning her Ph.D. She worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Oregon Health Sciences University, where she was awarded an NIH grant to study the molecular mechanisms of neurotrophic growth factors. Prior to entering law school, she also performed postdoctoral research at the University of North Carolina, investigating MHC class I molecules. His 20+ years in the business includes a mid-career stint for the United Nations working in Europe, Africa and elsewhere to create communications campaigns involving cross-cultural approaches, commended in a U.N. letter. About Amy Trejo

Amy Trejo received her BSc. in Biology from Smith College in Northampton, MA and PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. She started with The Procter & Gamble Company in Cincinnati, OH in 1998 with responsibility for developing up-stream skin care technology for P&G’s Olay skin care brand. From there she moved on to manage upstream technology in the Health Care category working on digestive wellness brands with focus on the Align probiotic product. She then moved into product development managing new product innovation for Head & Shoulders. For the past 4 years Amy has worked as part of the Corporate Open Innovation Team, working to bring the best of external technologies into P&G to accelerate and strengthen their R&D programs.
